Well, it has been quite some time since I have posted. I am sure all of you have many questions about what is going on in the gaddy world. First, I want to thank all of you for your well wishes and prayers, thank you so much, the past couple of months have been trying to say the least. I have been wanting to write this post for some time now, but was just unable to talk about it. I feel now is the time to finally share my story.
On June 24th, I was packaging up crayons to go to the post. I loaded the packages up in the car along with the kids, drove down the street to my sister in-laws house. I was dropping the kids at her house and picking up the packages that she needed to have mailed. We were in the kitchen talking when a neighbor came running to the house to let me know that smoke was coming from my house. I ran down to my house to find a sherriff trying to break in to save anyone that may be inside. There where flames coming from the back of the house and smoke coming out of every window and eve.
Eight firetrucks responded to the two alarm fire, they fought for over 4 hours to put the blaze out. We were lucky the firemen where able to save our Anna (beagle/basset hound mix). She was trapped under a bookshelf that had fallen, enabling her to be rescued. In the end, we lost everything in the house along with our beloved family cats, Copper and Lady. We also lost all of our stock of crayons, over 5,000 crayons along with all of our molds, over 1,000 different shapes and characters.
The insurance company has finally finished there investigation. The cause of the fire was due to the motor on the hot tub overheating. They think that the motor overheated, sparking, ignitiniting the insulation on fire around the hot tub. The flames from the hot tub in turn set the insulation on the patio roof ablaze, spreading to the rest of the house. It was an extremely hot day, everything aligned just so, and there is no explaining why that day and not any other. I am just thankful that my husband was at work and the kids and I were not home when the fire started.
So, after the fire we needed to start all over from zero. The insurance put us up in a beautiful Hotel for over a month. We recently decided to move into an apartment, cute little 2 bedroom with a balcony. The kids just need some kind of normal with school starting. Now that we have some kind of normal going on in our personal lives it is time to get my love of crayons up and going again.
So, we have been spending the last week or so collecting all the needed supplies to at least get the doors back open again. It's going to be slow going at first, but I hope to some day get back to where we once were. The plan is to open our website on Sept. 1st. I will post more detail this weekend. Thank you again for all your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at: gaddynippercrayons@gmail.com
Thanks again,
Nichole
